How to Reserve an Almonte Cats Kitten

Choosing a kitten is about far more than placing a reservation. It’s about finding a breeder you trust, understanding the process, and feeling confident that the kitten you’re bringing home has been raised with exceptional care.

We created this guide to answer the questions families ask most often before reserving a kitten. From how our waitlist works to why we raise multiple breeds, we believe an informed family is a confident family.

Transparency has always been one of the foundations of our breeding program. We encourage every family to ask questions, compare breeders, and take the time they need before making a decision. Bringing home a kitten should feel exciting, never rushed.

At Almonte Cats, we also believe every family has a Soul Cat, the companion whose personality naturally fits their home and lifestyle. Our role is not simply to raise beautiful kittens, but to help you find the one that feels like the right match for years to come.

Before You Reserve a Kitten

We never want families to feel pressured into making a quick decision. Whether you’re joining our waitlist for a future litter or reserving an available kitten, we encourage you to learn about our breeding program, ask questions, and make sure we’re the right fit for your family.

A kitten will be part of your life for many years. Taking the time to choose the right breeder is just as important as choosing the right kitten.

Learn About Our Cattery

Almonte Cats is a small, in-home breeding program dedicated to raising exceptional Ragdolls, Maine Coons, and British Shorthairs. Our cats are members of our family, and every kitten is raised inside our home with daily handling, early socialization, and individualized care.

We are registered with both The International Cat Association (TICA) and the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA), and our breeding decisions are guided by health, temperament, and preservation of each breed. Rather than producing large numbers of kittens, we intentionally keep our program small so every litter receives the attention it deserves.

From carefully selecting breeding cats to supporting families long after go-home day, our focus has always been on quality over quantity.

Choose the Right Breed

One of the questions we hear most often is why we raise more than one breed.

The answer is simple: no single breed is the perfect fit for every family.

Ragdolls are known for their gentle, affectionate personalities and relaxed nature. Maine Coons are playful, intelligent, and outgoing companions with impressive size and confidence. British Shorthairs are calm, independent, and easygoing, making them wonderful companions for families looking for a quieter personality.

By specializing in multiple breeds, we can focus on matching families with the companion that best fits their lifestyle instead of trying to make one breed suit everyone. We believe responsible breeding isn’t about convincing every family to choose the same cat. It’s about helping each family find the one that’s truly right for them.

That philosophy is at the heart of what we call the Soul Cat. Every family is different, and the right kitten is about much more than color or appearance. It’s about finding the companion whose personality feels like home. See more about Ethical Multi Breed Catteries here.

Why Families Trust Our Process

We understand that reserving a kitten is a significant decision. It’s natural to have questions before choosing a breeder, especially if this is your first purebred cat. We believe the best way to earn trust is through transparency, clear communication, and a process that’s easy to understand.

Here’s how we address some of the questions families ask most often.

What Families WonderHow We Address It
Can I see my kitten before bringing them home?Yes. We provide updated photos, videos, and can schedule a live video call so you can meet your kitten and ask questions before go-home day.
Why do you use virtual visits instead of in-home visits? Our kittens are raised inside our home. Virtual visits help protect young kittens, pregnant queens, and our breeding cats while still allowing families to follow their kitten’s development.
Why is a reservation deposit required?A reservation secures either your chosen kitten or your place on our waitlist. Once reserved, we stop offering that opportunity to other families and begin preparing for your kitten’s journey home.
Why do kitten prices vary?Pricing reflects the breed, individual kitten, pedigree, breeding program goals, and whether the kitten is placed as a companion or with approved breeding rights.
What happens after I reserve? You’ll receive updates, personality observations, veterinary records, your go-home guide, and ongoing communication leading up to pickup or delivery.
Can I ask questions during the process?Absolutely. We encourage questions from your first inquiry through go-home day and beyond. We believe informed families make confident decisions.
Will I receive support after my kitten goes home?Yes. Every Almonte Cats family receives lifetime breeder support. We’re always happy to answer questions as your kitten grows.

Every part of our reservation process is designed with two goals in mind: protecting the health and well-being of our kittens while giving families the information and support they need to feel confident about their decision. We believe trust is built through honesty, consistency, and open communication from the very first conversation.

Two Ways to Reserve a Kitten

Every family begins their journey a little differently. Some reserve a place on our waitlist months before a litter is born, while others fall in love with a kitten that’s already available. No matter which path you take, our goal is the same: to help you find the right companion while making the process clear, transparent, and enjoyable.

Join Our Waitlist

Many of our families reserve a place on our waitlist before kittens are available. Joining the waitlist gives you priority for an upcoming litter and allows us to guide you through the selection process once kittens are old enough to evaluate.

Because our litters are carefully planned and we intentionally keep our breeding program small, availability is often limited. Reserving early gives families the opportunity to be considered before kittens are publicly available while still allowing us time to get to know each kitten’s developing personality.

Our waitlist isn’t about choosing a kitten before it’s born. It’s about securing your place so we can help match you with the right companion when the time comes.

Reserve an Available Kitten

If you’ve found an available kitten that already feels like the perfect match, you can reserve that individual kitten once your application has been approved.

We’ll happily answer questions, provide current photos or videos, and help you learn more about your kitten before moving forward. We want every family to feel confident in their decision, and we’re always happy to discuss personality, development, and what to expect as your kitten grows.

Whether you’re joining a future litter or reserving an available kitten, our goal is never simply to place a kitten quickly. It’s to ensure every kitten joins the family that’s right for them.

Our Reservation Process

We’ve designed our reservation process to be straightforward, with open communication at every step.

StepWhat to Expect
1. Submit an ApplicationTell us about your home, lifestyle, and the type of companion you’re looking for.
2. ConversationWe’ll answer your questions, discuss available kittens or upcoming litters, and help determine the best fit for your family.
3. ReservationOnce you’ve decided to move forward, your reservation secures either your chosen kitten or your place on our waitlist.
4. UpdatesAs your kitten grows, you’ll receive updates, photos, personality observations, and guidance as go-home day approaches.
5. Go-Home PreparationWe’ll provide veterinary records, your go-home guide, and help you prepare for pickup or delivery.
6. Pickup or DeliveryWelcome your new family member home, knowing we’re always here for ongoing support and questions.

From your first conversation to the day your kitten comes home, we believe communication and transparency are just as important as the reservation itself. Our relationship with families begins long before go-home day and continues long after your kitten has settled into their new home.

Why We Ask Families to Apply

Our application isn’t about finding the “perfect” family. It’s about getting to know you so we can help you find the kitten that’s the best fit for your home.

Every family has a different lifestyle. Some are looking for a quiet companion to relax on the couch, while others want an outgoing kitten who enjoys being involved in everything they do. Understanding your household helps us make thoughtful recommendations based on personality rather than appearance alone.

During the application process, we’ll ask about your home, children, other pets, schedule, and what you’re hoping for in a companion. These conversations allow us to suggest kittens whose temperaments naturally fit your family’s lifestyle.

Previous cat experience is not required. Many of our families are first-time purebred cat owners, and we’re happy to guide you through every step of the journey. Whether this is your first kitten or you’ve shared your home with cats for decades, our goal is to provide the education and support you need to feel confident bringing your new companion home.

Finding the right kitten has always been more important to us than making the quickest placement.

Understanding Our Pricing

One of the questions we receive most often is why kitten prices vary.

Every Almonte Cats kitten is individually evaluated, and pricing may differ based on several factors, including breed, pedigree, breeding program goals, and whether a kitten is being placed as a companion or with approved breeding rights. Pricing is never arbitrary, and we believe families deserve to understand what they’re investing in.

Our companion kittens are placed in loving pet homes, while breeding rights are reserved for carefully selected breeding programs that meet our standards for responsible breeding and breed preservation.

Every kitten, regardless of price, receives the same foundation of attentive care before going home. This includes responsible breeding practices, routine veterinary care, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, registration, early socialization, and lifetime breeder support.

We believe transparency is an important part of building trust. The price you see reflects the individual kitten and what is included in your adoption experience. We don’t believe in hidden fees or unexpected costs after you’ve decided to welcome one of our kittens into your family.

Why We Require a Reservation Deposit

Whether you’re reserving an available kitten or joining our waitlist for a future litter, a reservation deposit allows us to begin planning for your kitten’s future home.

Once a reservation is received, we remove that kitten, or your place on our waitlist, from availability. This means we stop offering that opportunity to other families and begin focusing on preparing for your kitten’s journey home.

A reservation also represents a commitment from both sides. Your family is committing to your future kitten, and we’re committing our time, communication, and continued care throughout the remainder of the process. During this time, we’ll continue raising your kitten, provide updates as they grow, prepare veterinary records, coordinate pickup or delivery, and remain available to answer your questions.

We understand that reserving a kitten is a significant decision, which is why we encourage every family to to ask questions and feel comfortable before moving forward. Our goal is not to rush the process. It’s to ensure that every reservation begins with confidence, clear communication, and shared expectations.

Meeting Your Kitten

We want every family to feel connected to their kitten long before go-home day, no matter where they live.

As your kitten grows, we’ll share updated photos and videos so you can watch their personality begin to shine. You’ll see everything from sleepy newborn moments to playful milestones and growing confidence.

If you’d like to spend more time getting to know your kitten, we’re also happy to schedule a live video call. During the call, you can see your kitten in real time, ask questions, and learn more about their temperament and development.

We encourage questions throughout the reservation process. Whether you’re wondering about personality, care, feeding, or what to expect after go-home day, we’re always happy to help. We believe open communication builds confidence and helps families feel prepared before welcoming their new companion home.

Why We Offer Virtual Visits

Our kittens are raised inside our home, where they spend their first weeks developing alongside their mother and littermates in a carefully managed environment.

To protect young kittens, pregnant queens, and our breeding cats, we limit unnecessary visitors and instead invite families to meet their kitten through photos, videos, and live video calls. This approach helps us maintain strong biosecurity while still giving families the opportunity to watch their kitten grow and ask questions throughout the process.

Virtual visits also allow families across the United States to enjoy the same experience, whether they live ten minutes away or across the country. Instead of a single visit, you’ll receive ongoing updates as your kitten develops, giving you the chance to experience each stage before go-home day.

For us, virtual visits are about more than convenience. They allow us to protect the health of every cat in our care while giving families a transparent, personal look at the kitten they’ll soon welcome home.

What Happens After You Reserve?

Reserving your kitten is just the beginning. From that point forward, we’ll guide you through each step until your kitten is safely home.

Updates

As your kitten grows, you’ll receive regular photos and updates. You’ll be able to watch them develop from tiny newborn to confident companion.

Personality Observations

A kitten’s personality becomes clearer as they mature. We’ll share what we’re seeing along the way, including their confidence, play style, energy level, and affection. These observations help you get to know your kitten before go-home day.

Veterinary Care

Before leaving our home, every kitten receives routine veterinary care based on their age. We’ll provide your kitten’s health records so you know exactly what has been completed and what comes next.

Go-Home Guide

Every family receives our comprehensive go-home guide. It covers feeding, litter training, grooming, vaccinations, supplies, introductions, and what to expect during your kitten’s first weeks at home.

Pickup or Delivery Planning

As go-home day approaches, we’ll confirm pickup or delivery details, answer any remaining questions, and make sure you’re fully prepared to welcome your kitten home.

Lifetime Support

Our relationship doesn’t end when your kitten leaves our home. We’re always happy to answer questions and provide guidance throughout your cat’s life.

Pickup & Delivery

We welcome families to pick up their kitten in Pennsylvania by appointment. If you’re located farther away, we also offer safe transportation options throughout the United States.

Why We Don’t Ship Kittens as Cargo

Your kitten’s safety and comfort always come first. That’s why we never transport our kittens as cargo. Every kitten travels with a person, whether through pickup, ground delivery, or an in-cabin flight nanny, ensuring they receive care throughout their journey.

Our Health Commitment

Healthy kittens begin with responsible breeding.

Long before a litter is born, we focus on careful planning, health testing, and selecting breeding cats that meet the standards of our program. Every kitten also receives routine veterinary care and age-appropriate preventive care before going home.

To learn more about our program, we invite you to explore these resources:

  • Health Testing: Learn how we screen our breeding cats before they become part of our program.
  • DNA Testing: See the genetic testing performed to support healthy future generations.
  • Veterinary Care: Learn what veterinary care each kitten receives before go-home day.
  • Vaccinations: Understand your kitten’s vaccination schedule and what to expect after bringing them home.
  • Microchipping: Every kitten is microchipped before leaving our home.
  • Health Guarantee: Read about the health guarantee that accompanies every companion kitten.

We believe informed families make confident decisions. That’s why we’re committed to being transparent about the health care, testing, and support that are part of every Almonte Cats kitten.

Our Promise to Families

Choosing a breeder is a decision built on trust, and we take that responsibility seriously.

Clear Communication

We believe families should always know what to expect. From your first inquiry to go-home day, we’re here to answer questions, provide updates, and keep you informed throughout the process.

Honest Expectations

Every kitten develops at their own pace. We’ll always be honest about what we know, what we’re still observing, and what you can realistically expect as your kitten grows. Our goal is to help you make a confident decision based on accurate information.

Never Any Pressure

Bringing home a kitten should feel exciting, not rushed. We encourage every family to take their time, ask questions, and make sure we’re the right fit before placing a reservation.

Lifetime Support

Our relationship doesn’t end when your kitten goes home. Whether you have questions a week later or years down the road, we’re always happy to help. Every Almonte Cats family becomes part of our extended family.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I reserve a kitten before it’s born?

Yes. Many families join our waitlist before a litter is born. Reserving your place gives you priority when kittens become available for selection.

Can I choose my kitten?

Yes. If you’re reserving an available kitten, you’ll choose that individual kitten. Families on our waitlist select from available kittens when it’s their turn. We’re also happy to help guide you based on personality and lifestyle.

Can I change my mind?

We encourage families to ask every question they have before placing a reservation. If your circumstances change, please contact us so we can discuss your options.

Why don’t you allow in-home visits?

Our kittens are raised inside our home alongside young litters and breeding cats. To protect their health, we limit visitors and instead provide photos, videos, and live video calls throughout the reservation process.

Can I schedule a live video call?

Absolutely. We’re happy to arrange a live video call so you can meet your kitten, ask questions, and learn more about their personality.

How are kittens matched with families?

We consider your lifestyle, experience, preferences, and what you’re looking for in a companion. Our goal is to help you find the kitten that feels like your Soul Cat, not simply the first kitten that’s available.

When is the remaining balance due?

The remaining balance is due before your kitten goes home. We’ll provide payment details and go-home instructions well in advance so you’ll have plenty of time to prepare.

Can you deliver my kitten?

Yes. Families may pick up their kitten in Pennsylvania, or we can arrange white-glove ground transportation or an in-cabin flight nanny anywhere in the United States. Our kittens are never shipped as cargo.

Final Thoughts

Choosing a breeder is just as important as choosing a kitten. We encourage every family to ask questions, compare breeding programs, and choose one that values health, responsible breeding, transparency, and lifelong support.

Whether you’re joining our waitlist or reserving an available kitten, our goal is the same: to raise healthy, well-socialized companions and help every family find the kitten that truly fits their home.

If you decide Almonte Cats is the right fit for your family, we’d be honored to help you find your Soul Cat.
