Almonte Cats | Kitten Policies, Health & Adoption Process

Comprehensive Kitten Health Guarantee & Genetic Screening

All Almonte sires and dams are thoroughly DNA and health screened for breed-appropriate genetic conditions. Every breeding cat is FELV and FIV negative, and our kittens are examined by a licensed veterinarian before going home.

We stand behind our lines with a Comprehensive Health Guarantee, which includes genetic conditions, congenital issues, and coverage for heart health (HCM).
This guarantee reflects our dedication to responsible, ethical breeding and to the protection of every kitten’s future.

Right to Refuse or Cancel a Sale

We reserve the right to decline any sale or cancel a reservation at any time prior to transfer if we determine that placement may not be in the kitten’s best interest.
Should this occur, all monies paid toward the purchase will be refunded in full.

Our kittens’ safety and welfare always come first.

Kitten Vaccination, Health, and Testing Policy

For the protection of all kittens, we do not place kittens into homes with unvaccinated, FELV- or FIV-positive cats.
Before bringing home an Almonte kitten, your current cats must be current on vaccinations and tested negative for major feline viruses.

Our kittens are raised with two full rounds of FVRCP vaccinations before going home.
We recommend the following schedule and conditions for continued care:

FVRCP 3-in-1 or 4-in-1 vaccine: Given again at 16 weeks

Rabies vaccine: Preferably the PureVax non-adjuvanted rabies vaccine at 16 weeks (if required by your state)

Never give FVRCP and rabies vaccines on the same day

Never perform spay/neuter on the same day as a vaccination

These procedures must be at least 2 weeks apart to protect your kitten’s immune system. Failure to follow these intervals voids the health guarantee.

After the first year, discuss with your veterinarian whether annual or triennial boosters are appropriate for your cat’s environment.

 Kitten Quality and Evaluation

Every kitten is carefully evaluated for type, temperament, and structure before being offered for reservation. We care as much about temperament as we do about show type, because a truly exceptional cat is as kind and confident as it is beautiful.

Some kittens are held longer to confirm conformation, coat pattern, and eye color before being categorized as Pet, Show, or Breeding-Potential quality, which is available only by special arrangement.

We breed to meet or exceed breed standards recognized by CFA and TICA, always prioritizing personality, structure, and health.

Kitten Deposit, Payment, and Reservation Policy

Once your application is approved, a non-refundable $500 deposit secures your place on the Priority Waitlist or $1,000 is required if you are reserving a specific kitten. If you are on the waitlist you will get first chance to commit a litter once they are born.

Deposits demonstrate good faith and commitment. We plan our litters around our confirmed waitlist families, and your reservation helps ensure accurate timing and litter management.

Deposits are non-transferable and non-refundable, except if Almonte Cats cancels a sale.

Final payment is due at or before pickup, payable by invoice, Zelle, bank transfer, or cash.
Upon receipt of your deposit, you’ll receive an invoice,

Cattery Visitation Policy

For biosecurity and the health of our cats and kittens, we do not allow in-person visits to our cattery.
This protects our nursery from outside pathogens and keeps our mothers and babies safe.

Approved families will receive photo and video updates as their kitten grows.
Our kittens are raised in our home and handled daily, so they’re already well-socialized and confident when they leave us.

 Kitten Release and Boarding Policy

Kittens are typically ready to go home between 13 and 16 weeks of age, depending on maturity, size, and veterinary clearance.

If a kitten must remain at Almonte Cats beyond the scheduled pickup date, a boarding fee of $25 per day will apply for the first kitten ($175 per week).
If you are adopting two kittens from separate litters and picking them up together, the second kitten’s boarding rate will be $15 per day ($105 per week).

If additional vaccines are required during the boarding period, the following rates apply:

$25 for a 3-in-1 or Leukemia vaccine

$45 for a PureVax Rabies vaccine

All boarding fees and any added veterinary costs must be paid in full prior to pickup.

Kitten Transportation & Delivery

Almonte Cats complies with all USDA/APHIS guidelines regarding live animal sales.
We offer:

In-person pickup at our Pennsylvania location

Flight nanny delivery within the continental United States

We do not ship kittens cargo.
A face-to-face meeting—either with you or your authorized representative—is required before your kitten is released.

This ensures you meet your kitten in person and confirm their health and temperament.

 Almonte Kitten Go-Home Kit

Every kitten comes home with a beautifully curated Go-Home Kit that includes:

Familiar food and treats your kitten is used to
A soft toy and blanket with littermate scent
Complete veterinary and vaccination record
30 days of Trupanion Health Insurance
Our exclusive Digital New Kitten Guide PDF, filled with care, feeding, grooming, and transition tips

We’ve carefully selected each item to help your kitten feel secure and comfortable during the transition home.

Indoor-Only Cat Policy

All Almonte kittens are sold under an indoor-only agreement.
Allowing your kitten outdoors without proper supervision or containment voids the health guarantee.

The only exceptions are:
A fully enclosed catio or secure pet stroller for safe outdoor enrichment
Constant supervision with no free-roaming allowed

We love each of our kittens deeply and want them to enjoy long, safe, and happy lives indoors.

Kitten Declawing Policy

Declawing is strictly prohibited and will void all health guarantees.
Declawing is a painful and unnecessary procedure that can cause long-term pain, behavioral issues, and psychological distress.

If declawing occurs, it will be treated as a breach of contract.
We’ve carefully selected each item to help your kitten feel secure and comfortable during the transition home.

 Essential Oil Policy

Essential oils can cause serious neurological and organ damage to cats.
For this reason, our contract strictly forbids the use of essential oils in diffusers, household products, or topical applications unless expressly approved by a licensed veterinarian.

Exposure to essential oils voids all health guarantees immediately.

 Elective Cat Surgery Policy

To protect your kitten’s health, no elective or cosmetic surgery should be performed before nine months of age.

Spay or neuter must be completed between 6 and 7 months old, preferably closer to 7 months.

Performing multiple procedures (such as vaccinations and surgery) within the same two-week period can over-stress a kitten’s immune system and may trigger health complications.

We have never experienced a case of FIP in our program and maintain these strict health standards to continue that record.

Kitten Care & Grooming Expectations

Almonte Cats kittens require consistent care to remain healthy and beautiful:

  • Daily coat brushing (especially for longhaired breeds)
  • Daily eye cleaning with soft, damp wipes
  • Regular hairball treatment (weekly recommended)
  • Premium quality nutrition, both wet and dry
  • Safe, loving home environment with enrichment and attention

Our goal is for every Almonte kitten to thrive in health, confidence, and beauty.

 Lifetime Kitten Support

We provide guidance on kitten care, nutrition, and grooming based on current veterinary and breeder best practices.
However, Almonte Cats does not provide medical advice or treatment.

Health concerns or emergencies should always be directed to a licensed veterinarian.

Adopting my Ragdoll from Almonte Cats was effortless and personal. They matched me with the perfect kitten whose temperament fits my busy lifestyle. My kitten is healthy, confident, and truly my Soul Cat.”
